You probably couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to spend in the city of San Jose - and that’s just what a few of us SAM members did today to help out our community. The 2nd Annual San Jose State University Day of Service kicked off Friday, April 25th, and SAM was in attendance with several members - Jay Patel, Hiwat Abebe, Dave Cole, Cecilia Melgar, and Anna Mendez.
For this year’s event, we were chosen to help clean up the river area by the Guadalupe Park Riverwalk, stretching all the way from Highway 280 down to HP Pavilion. Sure we got a little dirty, but the results of our efforts were well worth the while - we filled an entire pickup truck bed with trash that we collected down just one small stretch of the river. It’s amazing how much garbage collects that we don’t even notice!
After we finished our clean up efforts, we returned to San Jose State for an afternoon barbeque, as well as some fun and games. Overall, it was a very worthwhile event and we’re proud to represent not only the SAM organization, but also our university and the community we call our home. Make sure to keep an eye out for another event next year!

The Cisco meeting has been moved back a week so that our speaker can make the meeting due to a scheduling conflict that arose this last week. So, instead of April 23rd, Cisco will be speaking at our usual time and place - BBC 003 at 4:30pm on May 7th. Be sure to come by to learn more about what this dynamic Silicon Valley powerhouse has to share, including career opportunities, new business opportunities that they are creating and going after, as well as some of the challenges that face technology-company managers in their day-to-day lives.
This is the last SAM meeting of the semester so come on out, socialize, and set up some plans for summer!
If you have any questions, be sure to email events@samsjsu.org.
Hi all! Just a few updates for SAM members that I wanted to share.
First off, we’d like to remind everyone that there are a few great events on the horizon - Cisco will be speaking next Wednesday at 4:30pm in the BBC 003 room. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this excellent organization and what opportunities may be available for management & business students. Also, on Saturday don’t miss the College of Business 7th Street Barbeque at the 7th Street BBQ pits (outside of the Spartan Events Center in the center of campus) at Noon on Saturday, April 19th. Come out and network with professors, other motivated students from the COB, as well as local professionals that are active on SJSU’s business campus.
We’re sorry to announce that Parsha Ostadsharif has resigned his position of Controller due to personal reasons. We wish him the best of luck and hope that he will return to SAM this fall. Sagar Chokshi will be taking over his duties, and we’re confident that he’ll be able to take the reigns and continue to organize our funds and finances as the semester wraps up.
We’re also disappointed to announce that we have canceled our End of the Year Banquet. We’ve decided that rather than throwing an event at the last minute, we will focus our energy and resources towards planning out an awesome Fall 2008 lineup of speakers, events, and opportunities for SAM members.
We’ve added some new links to our resources section (located at the bottom of the column to the right) including Guy Kawasaki, BNet, and Valleywag. These are some of the leading resources for Silicon Valley based business people, and hopefully you’ll find them useful. Of course, if you have more suggestions for links and resources that you’d like us to add, please email web@samsjsu.org with your suggestions.
