Review: Job Fair Success Workshop

Job Fair Success WorkshopWednesday February 27 - The Job Fair Success workshop was a good opportunity to see what SAM and business students had to offer in terms of getting ready for the big career expo the following week. Our speaker from the career center led us through a wide range of topics, mostly revolving around the “1-Minute Commercial” - the brief moment you get to say hi to a recruiter and make an impression. She provided a pretty useful handout that talked about how to plan your 1-Minute Commercial, including these factors:

  • Your major
  • Career interests
  • Type of position you’re seeking
  • Work experience
  • Class projects & experiences that might be applicable
  • Youw your background and future goals will fit their organizational needs

There was a good amount of interaction between folks sitting near one another, so everyone got the chance to make some new acquaintances and test out their 1 Minute Commercial with a peer before going toe-to-toe with the recruiters at the actual expo. There were also some prizes up for grabs for those willing to jump up in front of class and show their stuff.

If you were at the Job Fair Success Workshop, post up your comments and let us know what you thought! Was there anything that wasn’t covered you wish was, or something that was covered too much that you could live without? And most of all - did you go to the career expo and use the skills and suggestions provided in this workshop?
