March 5, 2008 – San Jose State Events Center – The career center put on a great career expo this year, featuring over 120 companies from around the Silicon Valley. Lots of the heavy hitters were out in force, including Cisco, Yahoo, IBM, PG&E, Target, and many more. Of course, there were plenty of smaller companies featuring booths with friendly recruiters ready to answer questions and get SJSU students (especially, of course, SAM members) started within their organizations.
From my perspective, the early-bird pass was a great asset. The lines were already forming before noon, but once inside it only took about 15-20 minutes to meet even the most popular organizations, and best of all the recruiters weren’t worn down from hours of discussions with other people. The energy was great, and again it’s amazing to see the diverse field of candidates that San Jose State has to offer.
On another positive note, Jay mentioned that there will be some excellent companies coming to talk next semester that he and Lanett were able to line up. I’ll save the official announcement for our events team, but let’s just say things are looking even better for SAM members in the future.
Did you attend the career expo? What’d you think? Post up your thoughts and comments, and let us know if the job fair workshop paid off last week. Oh, and don’t forget, next week we’re having our Interview Skills workshop which will be great for those of you looking to shine in the interviews you earn in the coming weeks and months.
