The Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) invites you to our 2nd movie fundraiser, hosted in part with Alpha Kappa Psi.

Although the showing is on “Dead Day,” studies show that effective and healthy study skills involve taking a break!

Last General Meeting – April 29th

Hey everyone!

The semester is finally winding down! I hope you all have had a nice semester and are looking forward to summer as much as I am!

I want to take this time to announce our last general meeting for the semester. Location will be at the MLK Library in room 392, but the time is the normal 4:30-6PM. We will be discussing our plans for Fall 10 semester and what you can do to be apart of our growing organization. We will also be announcing an Iron Man 2 private screening, much like our Alice in Wonderland 3D screening back in March. Also, bring your resumes! We will be offering resume tips, and even some critiques.

Food and refreshments will be served so please come out one last time before the semester ends!

When: April 29th from 4:30PM to 6PM

Just a reminder, guest speaker Mike Mueller (see his website here) will be speaking on the use of social networking tools, such as LinkedIn as an outlet to market yourself in a professional and effective manner. Today, it is really all about who you know in the business world, and SAM and LBSA is presenting a series of events in order to give you all exposure. Come out and learn this valuable skill! Afternoon!

March is shaping up to be a busy month! I want to thank everyone who has come out to all of our events, as well as the events other organizations have invited us to. With that said, LBSA has extended another invitation to one of their events, this Wednesday, March 10th. See the description and flyer below. All of our members are encouraged and welcome to stop by and learn!

Ever wonder what Networking is? Curious to know how to network? Come and learn the Do’s and Dont’s about networking. We are having two networking gurus come in and tell you how to network effectively. In todays world, it is who you know that matters.

SAM and LBSA are proud to announce an upcoming etiquette dinner showcasing the leading etiquette consultant Sharyn Kennedy Amoroso. Come and learn or polish your table manners and dining skills at Il Fornaio Restaurant in Downtown San Jose.

You are all invited to join us on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 6PM. The etiquette dinner will cost $35 per person (covers cost of speaker, venue and food), and in order to reserve your spot, must be paid by Wednesday, March 17th.

LBSA (Latino Business Student Association) has invited SAM out to their semesterly Salsa Night Fundraiser Social event!

Don’t know how to salsa? Dont worry! We’re going to teach you! The salsa night will take place at Azucar! Latin Bistro & Mojito Bar in Downtown San Jose. The event starts at 8PM and as usual, directions are provided below. All members are encouraged to come out and have fun and learn a new skill!

Good evening everyone!

First off, I would like to thank all the members as well as the other officers for such a successful month thus far. We have all worked really hard to prepare for this semester, and things are looking great already! Good job everyone!!

Secondly, I’d like to update everyone on a few events coming down the line as well as a few loose ends.

- Thursday/Friday February 25/26th @ TBD, Dinner/Social, Billiards, Bowling or Rock climbing
- Thursday, March 11th, 3:00PM, 2nd General Meeting @ SJSU Student Union – Room TBD
- Thursday, March 11th, 7:00PM @ Camera 12 Cinemas. Movie: Alice in Wonderland 3D. Cost: $7

SAM will be hosting a movie night fundraiser at Camera 12 Cinemas in Downtown San Jose on March 11th @ 7pm. It is our very first fundraiser of the year and it is shaping up to be an exciting night. We will be showing Alice in Wonderland in Disney Digital 3D, glasses will be provided! Tickets can be purchased from any of our officers as well as some members! Hurry before tickets sell out! Our 2nd general meeting occurs on the same day, and while the agenda has not been announced, look for updates on that very soon.

Next, we’d like to get your input on a happy hour/social for the last week of February. We’re planning to host an unsponsored happy hour/social on Friday, the 26th at Flames Restaurant. All members and non-members are invited to come out and meet the officers as well as other members on a more personal level. We all know how hard it is to get to know people in more formal settings, and would love for you to all come out and get to know each other better!

Spring 2010 Semester

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope everyone had a fun/relaxing break! I just wanted to quickly update our members from fall semester, and any potential members on the status of SAM. We will be rushing in front of the COB this coming week as well as the first week of February in collaboration with the COB’s rush week. Officers will have a table setup somewhere outside of the COB with a tent and a table, so come by and meet the team! We will be happy to share information about SAM as well as take any new members looking to join. Cost to join is $20/semester (CASH only please as we had many issues last semester regarding checks and online payments) and comes with a free SAM tshirt! Also, for a limited time, we have hooded sweaters available! Only ~10 or so will be available, so ask any of the officers how you can get one.

As for events, we have an exciting semester to look forward, with many events. Stay tuned for more details! The entire SAM team is looking forward to a great semester, and so should you!

One last thing, Over the next couple of days/weeks, the website will be updated to provide more information as they become available, events, calendars, etc etc! Subscribe to our RSS feed and keep up with SAM!

International Week: Global Village Event with LBSA

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, and there aren’t too many things scheduled for this month, however we do have a confirmed event coming up! Sorry for the late notice, but see the flyer below! More information on I-week below as well:

International Week is a celebration of global and cultural awareness. As leaders in the College of Business, we can show students how collaborating and understanding others – including their cultures, can be a fun and rewarding experience. SAM and LBSA will be hosting Global Village in celebration of International Week. Stop by the Pacifica Room in the Student Union, between 12-2pm on Tuesday November 17th.

Just wanted to extend a few invites for some last minute items going on this week. Beta Theta Pi has extended an invitation to us to compete in their “Bowling for Breast Cancer Awareness” tournament going on this Friday. See here for RSVP:
