Spring 2010 Semester

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope everyone had a fun/relaxing break! I just wanted to quickly update our members from fall semester, and any potential members on the status of SAM. We will be rushing in front of the COB this coming week as well as the first week of February in collaboration with the COB’s rush week. Officers will have a table setup somewhere outside of the COB with a tent and a table, so come by and meet the team! We will be happy to share information about SAM as well as take any new members looking to join. Cost to join is $20/semester (CASH only please as we had many issues last semester regarding checks and online payments) and comes with a free SAM tshirt! Also, for a limited time, we have hooded sweaters available! Only ~10 or so will be available, so ask any of the officers how you can get one.

As for events, we have an exciting semester to look forward, with many events. Stay tuned for more details! The entire SAM team is looking forward to a great semester, and so should you!

One last thing, Over the next couple of days/weeks, the website will be updated to provide more information as they become available, events, calendars, etc etc! Subscribe to our RSS feed and keep up with SAM!

Please RSVP for our first general meeting below:

See you all soon,

Updates!

Hey everyone! I want to start off by saying that I hope everyone is having a great weekend, it was definitely a treat to meet all of you this past thursday at our first meeting/event! I hope to see all of you around at the up and coming events. Now onto website updates, I have added a new page with a basic list of members who joined at this past meeting as well as online. Also we have begun to re-utilize the facebook group; if you haven’t already joined, check out the right panel under “Resources & Links” and checkout our group for updates right to your facebook! On a quick note, the events page is in the process of being updated with new events and those tentative ideas discussed this past thursday. Oh and another thing, the few pictures that I did happen to take are posted on the “Events & Pictures” page!

Also, members, look for an email from info.sam@gmail.com within the next few days confirming your membership status! Stay tuned for more updates!

P.S. See you all at the ELC BBQ, Thursday Sept 24th @ the 7th Street BBQ Pits!

Welcome to Fall 2008!

Hope everyone had a great summer break! Well, it’s that time of year again to start off another semester at San Jose State University. Fall ‘08 should be a great semester here at SAM (for those not in the know, SAM stands for Society for the Advancement of Management). We’re going to kick off the year starting Wednesday, August 27 with informational tables out front of the Boccardo Business building. This is a great chance to meet existing SAM members and officers, learn about what our organization has to offer, and get signed up.

To give you a brief idea of what SAM is all about, we are an organization of motivated students looking to amplify our in-class management experience with extracirricular opportunities such as workshops, speaking events from local business people, and networking and socializing. Even if you’re not a management major, but expect to pursue a career by leading and organizing your peers and colleagues, SAM may be right for you. We welcome all students from all programs and departments, although our central focus is obviously on maximizing the experience for SJSU College of Business students.

Welcome back to San Jose State University (or for incoming freshman and transfer students, just welcome!). Go Spartans!

SAM Updates!

Hi all! Just a few updates for SAM members that I wanted to share.

Boccardo Gateway at San Jose State UniversityFirst off, we’d like to remind everyone that there are a few great events on the horizon – Cisco will be speaking next Wednesday at 4:30pm in the BBC 003 room. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this excellent organization and what opportunities may be available for management & business students. Also, on Saturday don’t miss the College of Business 7th Street Barbeque at the 7th Street BBQ pits (outside of the Spartan Events Center in the center of campus) at Noon on Saturday, April 19th. Come out and network with professors, other motivated students from the COB, as well as local professionals that are active on SJSU’s business campus.

We’re sorry to announce that Parsha Ostadsharif has resigned his position of Controller due to personal reasons. We wish him the best of luck and hope that he will return to SAM this fall. Sagar Chokshi will be taking over his duties, and we’re confident that he’ll be able to take the reigns and continue to organize our funds and finances as the semester wraps up.

We’re also disappointed to announce that we have canceled our End of the Year Banquet. We’ve decided that rather than throwing an event at the last minute, we will focus our energy and resources towards planning out an awesome Fall 2008 lineup of speakers, events, and opportunities for SAM members.

We’ve added some new links to our resources section (located at the bottom of the column to the right) including Guy Kawasaki, BNet, and Valleywag. These are some of the leading resources for Silicon Valley based business people, and hopefully you’ll find them useful. Of course, if you have more suggestions for links and resources that you’d like us to add, please email web@samsjsu.org with your suggestions.

Updated Facebook Group

Well, in getting in the spirit of being socially-networked, we’ve gone ahead and updated our Facebook group. If you’re a member of SAM, click here to visit the SAM SJSU Facebook Group page and click the “Join this Group” link in the top-right corner. This is a great way to keep connected with SAM members outside of the classroom and our meetings, and hopefully can spark some friendships that go beyond the group.

Also, if you’re interested in joining our LinkedIn group, just email LinkedIn@SAMSJSU.org to receive an invitation to the group. LinkedIn is one of the best ways to keep your business relationships in one place, and can provide you with valuable connections and introductions as you’re making your way through your future career(s)! Click here to visit LinkedIn and start a profile if you haven’t already.

Also, another reminder, come see Enterprise Rent-A-Car tomorrow (Wednesday, March 19th) at 4:30pm in the BBC 003 room, and don’t forget to schedule the 4th Street Pizza social on Thursday afternoon as well.
